I generally look for a pattern or a recipe whenever I need or want something new. If it is non food stuff my next stop is a thrift store or flea market. There are a few exceptions to buying things used but not too many.
Okay now it is your turn, what are you making rather than buying? I am always open for learning something new.

I do make quite a bit of the things we use around the house and in the kitchen, I would add cheese and pasta and soap and nightgowns and most of the gifts we give and jellies/jams/pickles. I am learning to make apple cider, beer, and wine. I would love your ginger ale recipe!
check out King Arthur Flour website for great ideas on making sourdough bread. You can buy the starter from them, or you can make your own starter and develop it yourself. It's fun!

Hand cream, granola, baking mixes (a.k.a. pancake mix. I tried the homemade laundry soap, but with hubby working on greasy engines, it just didn't get his clothes clean enough.
Thanks, Maria!
I make laundry soap, taco seasoning mix, pizza dough and applesauce. I would love to do more, I need to sit down a figure out what it is I can do.

PS: how do you make your bug spray?

I need to move towards less processed more homemade type stuff. I love to bake bread but rarely do it. It's so much better for us to make it ourselves!
