Productive Day

I did some practical sewing today and I am quite pleased with what came out of it. I made new curtains for the kitchen, the old ones started to disintegrate and looked a bit sad. Now I have strawberries instead of lemons.

And then I cut up an old fraying bath towel and made two new dish mats. Fresh colors for my kitchen.

Und dann habe ich ein altes ausgefranstes Badetuch zerschnitten und zwei neue Abtropftuecher daraus genaeht, eine Farbauffrischung fuer meine Kueche.

Jahresprojekt 2016

The pattern for February was 'Hearts' and I decided I needed a new sofa cushion. I still have a lot of pre-cut hearts that I bought many moons ago and so it was a rather quick project and I am happy with the result.

A Quilt for Mr. Moose

All my cats have their own quilts and knitted blankets. Today I made a quilt for Mr. Moose and started on his knitted blanket, which will take a while, I knit fast but not that fast. Looks like he is enjoying his new quilt.

Sewing

Lovely, sunny day today. I spent the morning with a bit of sewing. I made a Kindle case for Del, two fat quarters a piece of batting and an hour of work. Very clear instructions and very easy to make. Tutorial can be found here.

And then I sewed the borders onto my cross stitch pieces.

Now I am off to do some baking.

Fabric Auditions

Decisions, decisions, decisions. This is the first design in a 12 month SAL and I plan to frame each one with a matching batik fabric and then put them together into a wall hanging. I am trying to decide which one of these fabrics looks the best, I will not combine several fabrics per block, just one, the question is: Which one is it going to be?

Sewing

My first finish in 2015, a curtain for the bath room. It turned out exactly how I pictured it. The strips were left over from an abandoned quilt project.

My September Heart

September is "Cat Birthday Month" at our house so I decided to make this month's heart a cat themed one. Mr. Leo approves.

Mug Rugs

I found myself in a bit of a mood during the past week, no idea why, maybe the seasons are changing a little too fast, but today I am feeling much better and I made two mug rugs that will become a gift.

Friday Night With Friends - Finishes

I finished three projects tonight during FNWF!

A crochet owl basket. I just needed to attach the eyes and the beak. (The pattern for it can be found here.)

The birthday gifts for my cats, big toys for big cats, stuffed with catnip. They needed the loose threads taken care of.

And a dishcloth for Halloween. I plan on using it for something other than a dishcloth though. (Pattern can be found here.)

My April Heart

This is what the other cross stitch motive was too big for. This one is 5" tall and I really like how it turned out.

April

Well, hello there April! The first quarter of the year is over and I sincerely hope that Winter is over and done with too. March was a bit rough with all that snow and ice and cold, now lets see what April has in store for us.

My main projects for the month are the garden and finishing spring cleaning the house. But fear not, there are plenty of craft projects on my list as well.

Done!

I finished the last of my March projects, the wall hanging for April.

I managed to work on all the things I planned to, the small ones are all finished, the kitchen curtains will take a little longer, I ran out of crochet thread and have to wait a little to get more of it. And I switched from knitting a shawl to knitting a scarf because I thought the yarn was not a good fit for the shawl. Considering everything else that went on, I am happy with what I have achieved.

Christmas Ornament

Well, the weather fits, it was snowing this morning.

I have finally finished the ornament for '1 Christmas Item Per Month'.

The weather and power problems at the beginning of the month sure took the wind out of my sails but I am trying to catch up this week before March is over. I will not be able to finish all my projects but at least a few of them.

Weekend

I broke the spell and did crafty things this weekend! Don't worry, I still cooked and baked as well.
I made a tiny quilt out of my Valentine's Day cat stitchery and turned a previously started applique and stitchery block into a lavender pillow, filled with lavender from my garden. It is also my heart for February.

The weather was so so, no rain, cold in the morning, warming up during the day. Although it still gets cold there is a noticeable shift in the seasons, the air feels softer, the days are getting longer on both ends now and some new green is poking through the soil in the garden. I am itching to get out and work in the garden even with snow in the forecast, I think I am getting cabin fever.

We watched some old movies and I knitted a bit more on my froggie socks, I have no idea why they take so long, must be the thin yarn.

Tomorrow is housework day and once I am done with all the chores it will be back to the sewing machine. MamaCat is fine again, the hairball must have shifted and she is back to her usual nutty self. That improved my mood tremendously and I am looking forward to a creative week.

Hope your weekend was a good one too.

What I am working on

I paper pieced the border for the February wall hanging today and although I was worried it might overwhelm the heart I am quite pleased with it.

And I am working on the second sock of the pea green pair.

Sewing

I am determined to make all the things this year that fell by the wayside last year. These are two of them, a dish mat and new oven mitts. The oven mitts were a new experience for both me and the sewing machine, I have never worked with that insulation material before. I used a jeans needle and Lily did just fine. I need to work a bit more on getting the thumbs a little bigger and the top not at quite such a sharp angle. But for now they will do.

Both are free patterns/tutorials and can be found here:   Dish Mat  Oven Mitt
