Well, we went and checked our stuff tonight and it appears that they also took one box with stuff for Del's model railroad and the box with my singing penguins, which also had a singing snowman/dog thing that Del got for Christmas. Also missing are the two tin buckets I used for my outdoor Christmas decoration and two wooden stools.
The management of the storage place told us to report the theft to the police, we will call tomorrow to find out what we can do. I try not to be too upset, but I am not very successful at that. :(

Birthday Presents
Thieves
Somebody broke into our self-storage unit and stole most of my Nascar diecasts. We have no idea when it happened and at the moment we don't even know what else might be missing. Del went to the storage to get the three boxes with my cars because I wanted to put something away and also to repack them. He called to tell me that the padlock was missing and that he can find only two boxes. I guess the two he found were not interesting since one only has empty boxes in it and the other one had empty boxes on top. I am sad, I never wanted to put the cars into storage but there just was not enough room for them in the apartment. And although my interest in Nascar has greatly declined I never wanted to get rid of the cars. It is kind of ironic though, all our stuff made the move from Europe to the US perfectly safe only to get stolen by some creep here. I wish them no luck in whatever they do with my stuff. I will probably sell the remaining cars since I can't afford to replace the stolen ones and I don't like collections with missing pieces. I lost at least 5 Dale jr. cars in 1:24 and a number of others and most of the 1:64 cars. I am fed up and upset.
On the other hand I am thankful they only broke into the storage place and not into the house and that nobody got hurt.

WIP Wednesday
I am currently working on catching up with my 12 x 12 x 12 challenge pieces. After the iron incident I sort of lost interest for a while and made a baby quilt and a few other items. Yesterday I kicked myself back to working on it, I don't want to give up on that project! The two pieces I am working on are actually for April - Sunflowers and May - Music. They both need some hand work at this point and I hope to be able to finish them this week.
I have also made two potholders as a birthday present and I am very pleased with how they turned out.
And I decided to make "my" afghan with granny squares only, this is what I usually do in the evenings when I watch TV.
I have been tossing an idea around for a while and I think I will just go and do it. It will help to reduce my fabric stash and let me make quilts that I will actually be able to finish. Stay tuned! ;)

Frustration
I started making squares for my afghan. I had the right yarn and hook to match the gauge in the pattern book. Squares are supposed to be 7". First one was perfect, second one got a bit bigger, third one got a little bigger, so did the fourth, the fifth square got huge and I got frustrated. I have no idea what is wrong, and I undid all squares and put the project on hold for now. I will probably just pick one of the patterns for the whole blanket, but not right now. I have decided to seriously work on finishing some of the many started yarn projects I have laying around before I begin a new one, although there is a huge ball of pink yarn just asking to be worked with. :)

Saturday
We had a good time at the NC Transportation Museum yesterday although it was very hot. We rode a caboose and saw lots and lots of trains which made my husband - a huge train fan - really happy. :) I gave him the camera and you can see all the photos he took HERE.
I think I might have enough yarn to last me a while now. ;) I took advantage of another yarn sale and came home with this.
The light green yarn on top will become a new afghan - just for me. I have promised myself not to start a new yarn project before I finish something, but since I finished two bags and a key-hole scarf this week I allowed myself to get started with it. I have a pattern for an afghan with 63 different squares and that is what I am working on right now. The two big balls of cotton yarn are also for a project for myself and the fuzzy stuff is for more key-hole scarfs and hats.
We also went to the farmer's market again and since I had my camera with me this time I could finally take a photo of this:
Although this is my all-time favorite color combination, I can not get myself to actually eat it. :)
We got some really nice and fresh green beans, tomatoes, strawberries and zucchinis instead.

More Bags
Last Saturday I tried a new bag pattern but it did not work out. It is a mesh bag, but the mesh is so soft, that the bag gets really long and ugly if you carry anything heavy in it. So I made one of "my" bags with the denim blue cotton yarn instead. Then I found another pattern which was just too cute not to try and it worked out nicely. :)
My favorite crafts store has my favorite cotton yarn on sale, I think I might need some more of it.
Tomorrow, after our weekly visit to the Farmer's Market, we plan to drive to Spencer for a day at the NC Transportation Museum.

Baby Shower
Yesterday I attended my first baby shower ever. We don't do that in Austria. It was for our pastor's wife and it was held in the big fellowship hall of our church. It was very nice, everybody did a good job at keeping it a secret from her and she was really surprised. She was the recipient of my blue and yellow baby quilt and she loved it, especially the label. :)
