Around the Garden

The groundhog was right, we have an early Spring, I even have my first mosquito bite of the year, a new record.
Signs of Spring are everywhere, the white violets are blooming and seem to spread all over the garden, which is fine with me, the rose bush is full of new leaves and the lilac is promising to bloom this year (no late frosts please) and there is even a new hat growing amidst the chickweed.

Knitting

I am adding chemo caps to my projects for the cancer center. I knitted a test hat, using this pattern and a soft cotton yarn from my stash.

Bobbles

I just finished a new pillow. When I saw the pattern in a Yarnspirations newsletter I knew I had to make it. And since I am currently working from stash my pillow has two different sides, one yellow, one white.

New Socks

My first pair in March is finished, just in time to take part in creadienstag again. Yarn is Opal Rainforest - Panama Franzi, the pattern is Vanilla Latte. I like to use simple patterns to show off the yarn.

Leftover Yarn

There is quite a lot of that in my house and every so often I come up with a use for it. This time I made a mat for the cat bowls out of cotton yarn and a new blanket for the little darlings out of colorful leftovers from my slippers.

Productive Day

I did some practical sewing today and I am quite pleased with what came out of it. I made new curtains for the kitchen, the old ones started to disintegrate and looked a bit sad. Now I have strawberries instead of lemons.

And then I cut up an old fraying bath towel and made two new dish mats. Fresh colors for my kitchen.

Und dann habe ich ein altes ausgefranstes Badetuch zerschnitten und zwei neue Abtropftuecher daraus genaeht, eine Farbauffrischung fuer meine Kueche.

Jahresprojekt 2016

The pattern for February was 'Hearts' and I decided I needed a new sofa cushion. I still have a lot of pre-cut hearts that I bought many moons ago and so it was a rather quick project and I am happy with the result.

Feline Friday

Mr. Moose - long legged, sleek and trim, the most fearless kitten I have ever met. Nothing scares him, when he hears a strange noise he runs toward it to check it out. He does not show much respect of the older (and much bigger) cats, he tackles them every chance he gets. He loves to wrestle with the boys and the girls don't like him much, I hope they will come around eventually. From the first night on he slept in our bed, sometimes tucked under my chin, snuggled under the blanket, sometimes curled up behind Del's knees or stretched out between us. He has a tremendous amount of energy in the morning, then he eats, crashes in his favorite spot and is not seen until later in the afternoon. He is smart and funny and I am glad he came home with us.

My project for 'One Christmas Item A Month' for February was this little cross stitch pillow.

MamaCat was busy helping with the stitching.

A blanket of his own

Sometimes I surprise myself. I must be a faster knitter than I thought, Mr. Moose's blanket is finished. I found a ball of baby yarn in my stash and decided that the color goes well with his quilt. I finished it over the weekend and now it is waiting for him to discover it (at the moment Leo is testing it for him).

A Quilt for Mr. Moose

All my cats have their own quilts and knitted blankets. Today I made a quilt for Mr. Moose and started on his knitted blanket, which will take a while, I knit fast but not that fast. Looks like he is enjoying his new quilt.

I fell in love ...

... and the rest is history, as they say.

We took our gang to the vet this morning for their booster shots and there in a cage was a pretty little kitten. We had to wait quite a while and he and I got acquainted. His is very sweet and gentle and so pretty, and his name is Mr. Moose, he is about 6 months old.

Meet the newest family member.

Right now he is getting to know the rest of the family and funny enough, he is doing the hissing and growling, but there has been some butt wiggling and a first attempt at playing with the smallest of ours - Mr. Franky. He is very playful and self confident, the others are very curious about him and I hope they will soon all get along.

I am probably out of my mind, but that just had to happen. And he is already fixed, had his first shots, is flea free and de-wormed. He was found at a construction site and lucky for him, a kind man brought him to the vet's office.

He already found his favorite spot - the window bench, and he already fell off of it as well going after a toy. And he just walked across my keyboard, not shy at all, the little fella. Oh boy, are we in for an exciting Spring. Wish us luck!

I also think that Del will never again take me along to the vet. :-)
