Around the Garden

What a difference a week makes! The zucchinis have finally decided to make an appearance, at least some of them, I have a suspicion that the birds dug up some of the seeds and ate them. The ones that are growing are not exactly in the same place where I planted them either.

The tomatoes are doing really well this year, I spied some tiny little ones already. The first jalapeno is also growing.

Carrots and lettuce.

The herb garden.

The experimental 'mixed bag bed'.

Things are looking up. Except for the flowers I planted. The squirrels have decided that the spot under the lilac is the perfect place for a sand bath, so instead of flowers growing I have a big hole there. They sure are lucky that I like furry things, as is the neighborhood cat that dug into the sunflower bed, not too many survived that treatment.

My creative juices seem to have dried up a bit this week, so no new socks, but I did read 6 books.

Around the Garden

My garden is giving me a mix of joy and grief this year. Some things are just not growing, by now the summer squash should be ready to take over the world. I got one measly plant out of 12 hills I planted. The carrots and lettuce in one bed are growing, the radishes and the lettuce in another one not so much. And the spinach came up and stopped growing all together. Not even the beans and cucumbers are making an effort this year. The tomato and pepper plants are doing very well and my herb garden is my pride and joy. We bought one of those big bag beds this year to see how they work out and everything in it is growing well. I think next year we are going to replace the doggie pools with the bag beds, looks like doggie pools work in NY but not so much in NC. How am I going to make it through the Summer without zucchinis?

One thing that grows really well this year are socks. I seem to find a new pair of them in the garden every week.

More Socks

The rising temperatures make my knitting projects shrink. I find it much easier to knit socks when it is warm than a sweater. The pattern for these is Pied Patronus and can be found here. I like the pattern and I really like the colors in the yarn (Serenity Sock Yarn, colorway is Surf, I had to use only one ball).

New Socks

Well, I finished another pair of socks and I am now officially ahead of schedule as far as one pair of socks per month is concerned. The pattern is made up by me, the yarn is Sock-Ease from Lion Brand, not my favorite sock yarn (I am sure glad I got so much of it).

Cross Stitch

My recent and ongoing cross stitch projects.

The May block from Palko, the fabric I am going to use for the border is a little dark but it was the only purple batik I had.

A seahorse heart that will become a gift, I am not sure yet how I will finish it. Pattern from here.

And my ongoing Scandinavian Christmas piece. Pattern from here.
