I miss sewing and reading!

In case you wonder, that's me. ;) I feel as blind as a mole and I have not been able to sew or read for way too long. I am getting a kind of cabin fever. Being on the computer gives me headaches. Grrr!
Went to the eye doctor yesterday, basically he told me that I am getting old - thank you very much! He said something about having crossed "that" line. I need bifocals and will get them on Monday. I hope I will get used to them quickly before I go nuts. I am getting so behind on my sewing and reading, all I can do is watch TV (my distance vision is good) and do housework. Luckily, the dishwasher is broken and I am doing dishes by hand, that gives me something to do. :)
It is raining here today which means a very unhappy cat that wants my attention. I better go and play with her Highness.

12 x 12 x 12 Challenge - March

I am a bit late with this, but I have some problems with my eyes and did not feel like sewing much recently. I have an appointment for a check up next week and hope that stronger glasses is all I need.
Here is my challenge piece for March. I managed to combine my favorite hot drink with one of my favorite color combinations - blue and yellow. The fabrics are all from one series except the light blue one on the bottom. I used two crochet doilies, cut in half for the table cloth, fusible applique and machine quilting.

Saturday

Today we were out and about. In the morning we went to Gibson Park to check out the Twin Ponds hiking trail, well, I did not like it much. The park is full of litter and storm damage and the ponds look like something out of one of my bad dreams. I prefer walking at the Piedmont Environmental Center. Then we drove to the Victory Junction Gang Camp to drop off ten afghans I made for them over the Winter. After that we had lunch at Cracker Barrel (we have not been to one in ages it seems) and went shopping for more yarn at Michaels. I recently sold some stuff on Ebay and also 3 of my hats, so I have money for more craft supplies. I also bought some baby yarn, I want to make some items for my shop with it. It was a gorgeous day today, temperature in the 60s and mostly sunny.
When we came home we watched the Busch Series race that had just started and had the leftover pizza from yesterday for dinner. I figured out how to make a good pizza dough with the yeast here, it seems to be different from the one in Austria, but it worked out well and my pizza was really yummy.
Sundays are reserved for church and puttering around the house, watching racing (or not) and doing some hobby stuff.

WOBQ

This is the block for the Wise Woman of Abel. I chose the really dark fabric for the center because I think cutting off someone's head is a pretty dark deed, even if it is done for the benefit of others.
Her story can be found in 2 Samuel 20:14-22.

Replying to comments

Has anybody out there on Blogspot figured out how to reply to a comment without just leaving a comment yourself? I don't seem to be able to find out how to do that.

So, here is my reply to two questions raised in the comments recently:

My Dear Jane blocks are all 4.5".
BOM = Block of the Month.

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to read my ramblings and to leave a comment. :)

WIP Wednesday

This month I am mainly working on my DEAR JANE QUILT, making at least one block a day to make some progress with it. It is definitely my biggest WIP. The blocks are only 4.5" small but with lots of pieces. :)
Here is a teaser for my 12 x 12 x 12 challenge piece for March and the material for another small something I plan to make for Easter.
I am also working on finishing a baby quilt to sell in my Etsy Shop.

A Walk in the Park

Yesterday morning we went for our first long walk of the year. It was a beautiful, sunny, warm and a bit windy day, so we went to the Piedmont Environmental Center and hit the Bicentennial Greenway. We took it easy, just trying to find out how rusty we got in the past few months. ;) It was not all that bad and we felt very good afterwards. I took some pictures along the way, normally the lake does not look that brown and muddy, we had some bad storms recently that stirred up the mud.

Dear Jane - Day 2

A4 - Courtney's Stethoscope, paper pieced, 23 pieces.

Friday

It is now 8:12 am and I have already stripped and changed the bed, cleaned the kitchen and the bathrooms, emptied and re-filled the dishwasher and I am working on my second load of laundry. Not to mention made breakfast and fixed lunch for Del. So, whatever else I'll be doing today, I think I earned it. ;)
It is a beautiful sunny morning here today after very heavy rain last evening, during the night and early in the morning, the birds are chirping like crazy and Miss Kitty is having a lot of visitors on the balcony. It is warm enough to have the balcony door open and I just love the fresh air after rain.
Because of the rain we did not go walking last night but we plan to make up for it tomorrow by going for a long walk in the park. Looks like it is going to be a good day. :)

Dear Jane - Day 1

Work on my goal for March (make at least one block for my DJ quilt per day) started today.

A-2 One-Two Buckle My Shoe, paper pieced, 40 pieces.

WOBQ

This is my block for Tamar, daughter of King David, who was raped by her half brother. The light background is for the virgin princess, the dark fabric with the blood red symbolizes what happened to her.
