Weekend
The temperature was significantly lower this weekend than the weeks before and we decided to tackle the overgrown mess that used to be our garden. After three years of battling all kinds of grass I give up, next year we will try something new. We also finally mowed several months of growth in the south field (where I don't mind the grass) and on the side of the house. The cats are not very happy about that since it took away their hiding spots (yes, the grass was high enough for the kitties to disappear in it when laying down).
Although slightly embarrassed by what has happened to the garden I am going to show some before pictures here (we were occupied with other, more important, things this Summer which contributed greatly to the mess).
And this is what it looks like after about 8 hours of hard labor (luckily without injuries although I did loose balance and fell on my well padded behind once again).
We discovered a 'giant' snake in one of the beds, can you spot the wee beastie in these pictures? I am just glad I did not hurt it with the tool I was using.
And I saw a praying mantis in flight for the first time. It came out of the overgrown azaleas when I pulled off the morning glories and settled on the lilac bush.
While we were working in the garden, MamaCat came proudly trotting in, carrying a bird she caught, when we did not let her take it into the basement (we already found two - alive - birds down there before), she took it into the bushes and ate it, growling at Floyd who was dumb enough to try to take it from her. I wish I could get through to him about not chasing or attacking the girls. I don't understand why all of a sudden they don't get along, they spent all of last Winter in the basement together with no problem and there was even a fourth cat there. Maybe they will get better at getting along once it gets a lot colder.
We had freshly baked apple-cinnamon-raisin muffins for Sunday breakfast and Mexican meatball wraps for lunch (Del's idea and they turned out very yummy).
And while watching some videos I managed to make a few slippers for the "Pink Slipper Project".

Finished!
My mom's birthday present is finished. I knitted the scarf a while ago and yesterday I finished the hat. The hat was my own design and I am happy with how it turned out. Miss K. seems to like it too. The hat does not look pointy when worn.
And here is a little kitty love for the day. He is trying so hard to convince me that he is the schmooziest, cutest and all around perfect cat to be taken into the house (he does not know that Miss K. uses tom cats as punching balls). That is, unless his brain misfires and he lashes out at me, he is also very jealous to the point I am afraid of touching the girls when he is around and he is very territorial, making sure, his winter quarters are secure. His hair used to be longer, I hope it grows back as it gets colder.

Weekend
I finished my first Christmas project! A holiday outfit for the little cloth doll that sits on my mantel.
There is also a new knitting project which is supposed to be the second part of my mom's birthday gift this year.
And as usual there were cats and flowers but no food, not that I did not cook anything I just forgot to take pictures, I tried a recipe from a fellow blogger and it was very good. I made the Dijon Meatballs .

I hung two of my small quilts, this one is hiding our currently unused TV and
this one hangs on the door of the linen closet.

Christmas Projects
Well, here they are, all materials and patterns are gathered, now all that needs to be done is - well, everything else. ;) These are the projects for my handmade Christmas, both for the house and for gifts, the only thing not planned yet are the cards. I better get to work, time is flying, I can't believe August is almost over already.

Productive Morning
My assistant and I were hard at work this morning.
First we made a bag for our Scrabble tiles.
Then we made two test ornaments for a swap. I can not decide which of the two I am going to make 15 times. Maybe you, my dear readers, could help me with that and vote for your favorite.
And after all that hard work my assistant was plum tuckered out. ;-)

A Bit of Knitting
I had the urge to knit a tea cozy this weekend so I went hunting for a pattern, found this one and now I am working on my second tea cozy for one of my other tea pots. Really cute and easy, I used some wool yarn from my stash. The two sides of the cozy are different because of the coloring of the yarn.
