I finally got that break I was planning on taking earlier. Not that there was nothing noteworthy going on around here I just did not feel like blogging. But there still was some fun to be had.
There was yarn shopping.
And birthday gifts. Books and handmade lovelies, my favorite kind of gifts, Del gave me a subscription to "Taproot" but the first issue has not yet arrived.
Birthday donuts for breakfast.
Chinese takeout and homemade pizza.
And even a little crafting took place. I made a crochet pillow using this pattern.
We will now return to our regular scheduled programming. ;-)

Around the Garden
Well, the veggies are as good as done, some tomatoes still need to get red or I need to find some good recipes for green tomatoes. The flowers are doing well, providing a spot of color and food for the hummingbirds. Some of the small sunflowers have developed secondary blooms after the main one died off.

Outside
The weather was finally cooperating and I could drag my big blanket outside for a picture.
The cosmos are really slow with blooming this year and we had enough rain for mushrooms to grow. Sigh.
At first the garden got off to a slow start and now it looks like it will come to an early end. The shift in the seasons is very noticeable already. Mind you, I am not complaining, just stating a fact. I love Fall and hope for a long and beautiful one. I just wish my remaining tomatoes would get a chance to ripen.

Pets on Quilts Show 2014
Pets and quilts, what's not to like? I have pets and I have quilts so when I found out about this I just had to take part. Here it goes.
Mama Elsa and son Leo snoozing on a snowball quilt.
Of course they also have quilts of their own.
In case this is your first visit to my blog - we have 7 cats. ;-)

Weekend
I spent some quality time in my kitchen this weekend, baking and cooking for our little Lammas Feast on Sunday. I had planned to try a new crochet pattern but after all the cooking and eating I was too tired for it, so I spent the rest of the afternoon reading. Here is what came out of my kitchen.
Floating candle with lavender from the garden.
Blueberry Crumbcake
Lammas Bread
Picnic style lunch.

Saturday Morning
I pulled the surviving carrots this morning (they were in the bed that got dug up and quite a few of the seeds were lost) and picked a herb bouquet.

Finished!
I actually remembered to sign up for FNWF this month. It was a cool day, perfect for sitting around with a huge blanket in my lap. I finished the colorful Firenze Afghan, the weaving in of the yarn ends took almost as long as making the blanket (no, just kidding, but it did take a while and reminded me while I do not like using more than one color in a project). But I am very pleased with how the blanket turned out. I was hoping for some sunny outside photos but the weather forecast does not comply with my plans, they will have to wait a few days. Meanwhile here it is, spread out on the bed. Our bed is queen sized so you get an idea how big it is. Now on to the next one.
Happy Lammas/Lughnasadh!
To all who celebrate the height of Summer and the first harvest. We will have a bit of a feast on Sunday because Del has to work tomorrow (but it is never too late for a feast, is it?).
Here you can read a bit more about the day. Lammas
