Weekend

Early Saturday morning we took Elsa and Leo to the vet. Elsa for a checkup and vaccinations and Leo has an ear infection, which we caught early. Now we get to put stuff into his ear twice a day, luckily he is a good boy and lets us do it. There was a woman at the vet with a three legged goat.
After we dropped the cats off at home we went to the farmer's market and had breakfast at the Moose Cafe. The market is becoming pretty crowded now. We bought pork chops, beef bones for making broth, kale, spinach, radish, romaine lettuce, eggs, strawberries, baby bok choi, sweet potatoes, tomato plants and also basil and dill for the garden, my seeds did not come up - again.

The rest of the weekend was spent digging in the garden, planting the tomatoes and herbs, reading, knitting, baking, cooking, making vanilla essence and granola and eating.

Farmer's Market

The market is definitely picking up now. Lots of goodies to get. We got asparagus, kale, napa cabbage, radishes, strawberries, romaine lettuce, small sweet onions, ground beef, eggs and bacon. And our little customs inspectors had to check it all out.

Weekend

Not quite what we had planned. Our weekend contained -

- a call to the police about an incident that left me spooked for the rest of the weekend and still makes me feel uneasy.
- a trip to the farmer's market, allergy attack included. Whatever it is that gives me problems must be growing in the area between home and market. Not much fun shopping with a fuzzy head "I just bought what?" ;-) The blinds did not come from the farmer's market. We picked up a few to replace the ones that were used as cat toys.

- a yodeling cat that has to be kept away from the boys. I sure wish that tax return money would come in soon.
- a spring cleaned mattress.
- a totally clogged kitchen sink. Repair is still ongoing, keep your fingers crossed that we can fix it ourselves.
- two knitting projects finished, a new one started.
- and as usual - sleeping kitties.

A Lovely Gift

My friend Coleen made this quilt for me. Isn't it gorgeous? Miss Elsa thinks so too.

Weekend

We had a long weekend, Del was off on Friday. The weather was nice and we finally got the spring garden planted - carrots, radishes, spring onions, parsnips, spinach, lettuce, beets and kohlrabi, beans and peas. And since the planting was not followed by heavy rain I have hopes that the veggies will actually grow where I planted them. ;-)
Saturday morning we went to the farmer's market which was quite packed already. Lots of people, on sale are mostly plants and early vegetables and strawberries. Nothing says Spring for me like asparagus and strawberries. I baked some treats for the weekend, a cinnamon-swirl-raisin egg bread for breakfast and a cheesecake for dessert. Lunch was roasted asparagus with scrambled eggs.

Something must have been in the air that triggered a nasty allergy attack and I was not feeling too good for the rest of the weekend which was therefore spent puttering around the house.
We watched the first season of 'Downton Abbey' and we liked it a lot, well written and acted and my favorite part is that none of the characters are all good or all bad (well, except one, he has not shown any good side so far).
I did a bit of knitting and reading and of course there was a lot of kitty loving.

I hope your weekend was a good one.

Blooming Wednesday

I have nothing to show for yarnalong this week so I thought I show you what is blooming around the house instead.

Cat Antics

This is what happens every Friday night when we come home from grocery shopping.

My 'baby' Jackie. He is laying in a 12" clay bowl that I used to repair the bird bath. He weighs over 7 pounds now and I wonder how much bigger he will get.

Jackie and Frankie playing around with the new 'cat box' (yes, I use under the bed storage boxes for cat boxes).

Sewing

I am just a little bit late with the SewingRoomSewAlong item for March, but it is done. The project was a thread catcher and I could not decide what I wanted to make. Finally I settled on a simple square one using the same fabrics as in the other items.

Weekend

It was a good one. :-)
On Saturday it looked like the weather would change our plans again but Sunday was dry and sunny and perfect for gardening.
So, this weekend

  • we went to the farmer's market (the farm where we buy most of our greens at the moment packs everything in plastic bags which I don't really like, but we do re-use them) for eggs, sausages, kale, asparagus, lettuce and the first strawberries.
  • we went to Lowe's. I like going there on Saturday, you can see what everybody's weekend projects are. Let's see if you can guess ours. We bought a hedge trimmer, a dry mop, a wet mop, Murphy's oil soap and rubber gloves. ;-)
  • and we finally worked in the garden. Three beds are cleaned out now, one is ready to be planted. The raspberry bush has been tamed, the herb garden has been cleaned out and replanted, the grass was mowed, most of the weeds were pulled, the forsythias were trimmed, and the honeysuckle was finally pulled from the lilac bush (something I usually do in February). We also repaired the bird bath and planted wildflowers in a certain area of the garden. We decided to not have a bird feeder anymore. The past two years, yellow jackets tried to build nests in them and the area under the feeders sprouted too many unwanted plants. I plan to put the hummingbird feeder back out next month. And we did all the work under the watchful eyes of our little ones.
There was also a little knitting and little reading, watching movies and plenty of good food.
