It started snowing around 1 pm and I have never seen so much snow come down in such short a time, not even in Vienna. It looks beautiful but I hope the ice that is supposed to follow the snow will not do too much damage. Here are some photos taken around 2:30 pm. Del came home early and I am very glad about that.

What I am working on
While waiting for the big storm I cast on the Mara Shawl with the yarn I got for Christmas.
And I am working on another small cross-stitch cat. This time it has a Christmas theme. You can find the free patterns for the little cats here.
I am more than a little nervous about what the storm is going to bring and hope it will not be as bad as it sounds. The problem with my Ott light is more than just a burned out bulb, sigh, guess I have to look for another craft light to help me with those tiny little stitches. And I really wish the cats would quit walking across the keyboard, it is not easy to type with several keys that are stuck. ;-)
Stay warm and safe.

We are not amused ...
... by the current weather forecast. We are under a winter storm warning until Thursday evening, expecting snow and ice. I just hope we will not lose power and that the mess will be gone by the weekend.
In other news: My Ott light quit on me yesterday and now I feel helpless. ;-) My eyesight is not as good as it used to be and I really depend on extra light for stitching and hand sewing. I hope it is just the bulb and the replacement Del will bring home tonight will fix the problem. In the meantime I am reading through my free kindle books (on the laptop, no kindle yet) and I am going to start a new knitting project with bigger needles and light colored yarn. I am also picking out materials for the rest of the calendar mini quilts and baking bread.
The kitties are not really worried about the weather, they just do what they do best - snooze.
(Why is it so difficult to upload pictures to blogger all of a sudden?)

Weekend
I broke the spell and did crafty things this weekend! Don't worry, I still cooked and baked as well.
I made a tiny quilt out of my Valentine's Day cat stitchery and turned a previously started applique and stitchery block into a lavender pillow, filled with lavender from my garden. It is also my heart for February.
The weather was so so, no rain, cold in the morning, warming up during the day. Although it still gets cold there is a noticeable shift in the seasons, the air feels softer, the days are getting longer on both ends now and some new green is poking through the soil in the garden. I am itching to get out and work in the garden even with snow in the forecast, I think I am getting cabin fever.
We watched some old movies and I knitted a bit more on my froggie socks, I have no idea why they take so long, must be the thin yarn.
Tomorrow is housework day and once I am done with all the chores it will be back to the sewing machine. MamaCat is fine again, the hairball must have shifted and she is back to her usual nutty self. That improved my mood tremendously and I am looking forward to a creative week.
Hope your weekend was a good one too.

Friday Night With Friends
Best laid plans ....
One of my cats was not feeling well today and I had a lot of stress. So what I had planned to do tonight did not happen. I did manage to knit a bit on my frog green socks and did a little bit of stitching on this little UFO and I tied a ribbon to my crochet heart. Not much but I had a really bad headache and headed to bed early.
MamaCat seems to be feeling better. I think she is dealing with a stubborn hairball. We got her some remedy and I hope it will help and spare us all a trip to the vet.

Ugh!
After my productive Monday I fell into some kind of February funk and did not do much of anything for the rest of the week. I can't believe I did not do anything crafty for three days, except knitting a bit more on my socks. Right now I am coming out of the blues and tomorrow I will take part in 'Friday Night with Friends', the project is picked, the fabric is cut, I will be sewing the long overdue cat toys for my furry gang.
I made potato pancakes for dinner last night and tried to fry them in the oven. This way they all come out at the same time and I don't have to stand in front of a pan with hot oil. The house still gets smelled up a bit but not as bad as when pan frying and they tasted really good. I used my own recipe, fashioned after the 'Kartoffelpuffer' from a famous Biergarten in Vienna.

Monday
It was a productive day. I baked bread and cookies and made a batch of granola. The cookies were a new recipe and they did not turn out the way they should.
The weather was warm but it rained a lot in the morning, my garden is becoming more and more of a swamp. I did, however, look through the seed catalog and plan my new herb garden. I am afraid this cold Winter has killed everything in it, even the rosemary looks all sad and brown. I still have enough vegetabe seeds but I would like to try and grow herbs from seed this year rather than buying plants.
It was a good day and now I am tired. Time for a cup of tea and some 'Inspector Lewis'.
While the bread dough was rising I tried a new crochet pattern.

Weekend
Saturday was shopping day, beautiful weather, sunny and relatively warm, even out at the farmer's market which seems to have been built in the windiest corner possible. We got all our groceries, took it really easy and came home at lunch time.
I had baked a braided bread for St. Brigid's Day and we ate it as sandwiches for lunch, some with ham and some with jam and we had baked custard for dessert. It has been a long time since I braided something and I messed up the beginning a little, but then remembered how it is done.
I also made another St. Brigid's candle. This time I used some boxwood twigs and cranberries.
After lunch I baked an apple cake for our afternoon coffee.
Sunday started out nice and sunny but then clouds moved in. It must have been sunny enough for the groundhog to see his shadow. I read up on the traditions surrounding this weekend and how that whole groundhog thing started. It has to do with hibernating animals, if they wake up around this time, Spring is near, if they don't, Winter continues, makes sense to me. And in honor of the little bugger predicting 6 more weeks of Winter - as if we all had not yet had enough of it, I made "groundhog stew" for Sunday lunch (don't worry, it is actually a beef ragout with majoram and sour cream, served over pasta).
As usual I did not do anything creative. But I did take a wander around blog land to see what others have been up to and found a lot of inspiration. I am looking forward to a very creative and productive month.
Now Del is watching the game online and I am fiddling with some patterns and playing games. It was a good weekend and I hope yours was too.
